Silke Gebauer (NAATI accreditation for German to English and English to German translations)

German-born and educated GeCoS founder Silke Gebauer embarked on an overseas career after acquiring a multi-lingual translator diploma at the Hamburg Language & Business School. For over 15 years she worked for publishers such as Reed Elsevier and Australian Universal Press in various managerial roles, and has lived in the UK, Asia and Australia where she honed her business experience in a multicultural environment as well as her writing and editing skills.

Silke obtained NAATI accreditation at the Professional Level for German to English and English to German translations in 1997, and holds a Diploma of Freelance and Travel Writing and Photography from the Australian College of Journalism. Her professional exposure to tourism, the meetings industry, incentive marketing and travel gave her the opportunity to publish in various English and German language media. She authored the travel guide about Australia ”Australien Entdecken und Erleben” for the German market. This successful guide was first published by Mairs Geographischer Verlag in 1997, and its third revised edition appeared in 2002. Silke also worked as a freelance radio presenter for the German language programme of Australia’s multicultural SBS Radio, and continues to do voice-over work.

Silke set up GeCoS in 2000, and is its principal translator and editor. In addition to her NAATI accreditation, she is a Senior Practitioner of AUSIT, Australia’s top professional body for the translation industry. As an office-bearer of the Victorian branch committee for a number of years, Silke actively supports AUSIT and was instrumental in the launch of the biennial Excellence Awards programme for Translators and Interpreters in Australia –something she remains passionate about.
